Simmzy’s Story

Serendipity: “happy accident” or “pleasant surprise.”

During the period it took to obtain permits for Tin Roof Bistro, another Simms restaurant, Mike Simms busied himself by brewing beer in his garage and taste-testing the future burger menu. Around the same time, his brother Chris moved closer; the brothers hadn’t lived in such close proximity for over 10 years. Wanting to grab a good brew together, the two realized nothing nearby satisfied their craving. Voila!

Las Barcas

True, Southern California is full of Mexican restaurants, but when Alberto and Carmen Denenberg moved their family from Buenos Aires to Huntington Beach they desired to establish a new food culture: Gourmet Mexican, a fusion born from their Argentine blood and their adopted home in Surf City. Using their experience in various ethnic restaurants, Las Barcas opened in 1987 and was named after the fleets of sailboats that cruise off the shores of Huntington Beach. As the original chefs, they cultivated recipes that emphasized their passion for fresh, unfettered food. By listening to their customers and to their own fine tastes, they created their legendary menu, from perfectly seasoned carnitas to monstrous 1 lb burritos.

Mama’s kitchen was always the one spot in our home where we gathered to enjoy each other and our Mama’s amazing cooking. We cherished the sweet aroma of homemade biscuits baking in the oven, the sounds of sizzling bacon and farm fresh eggs crackling on the stovetop. The refreshing lemonade and Mama’s secret recipes for anything and everything good kept us so comfy. Mama always knew how to make everything alright, regardless of the world around us.

THE BIRTHPLACE OF CALIFORNIA SURFING

With epic waves breaking along eight and a half miles of sand, Huntington Beach epitomizes the California beach lifestyle.
